Bast Sells for $4,200,000
Multiple Grade 1 winner Bast (Hip 245) sold for $4,200,000 at The November Sale. She was purchased in foal to Justify by Spendthrift Farm from the consignment of Hill 'n' Dale Sales Agency, agent.
Bast was the only two-year-old of either sex in 2019 to win three Grade 1 events. She broke her maiden in scintillating style, winning the Del Mar Debutante S. (G1) by 8 3/4 lengths in just her second start. She added the Chandelier S. (G1) and Starlet S. (G1) to her resume at two, then won the Santa Ynez S. (G2) in her three-year-old debut.
Bast won four of her six career starts, with two placings, and earned $852,000. She was campaigned by owner Baoma Corportion and trainer Bob Baffert.
Bast was offered carrying her first foal, by Triple Crown champion Justify.
Bast is a daughter of record-breaking Champion Freshman Sire of 2015 Uncle Mo, out of the Arch mare Laffina. That mare is a half-sister to no less than 10 winners, including: Grade 2 winner Mananan McLir; stakes winner Big Sur; stakes winner Charming N Lovable, dam of Grade 1 winner Fault; stakes placed Sandra's Rose, dam of stakes winners South Bend and He's the Reason; and Move Clickly, dam of Grade 2 winner Fioretti and stakes winner Louisville First.
